What Did We do?

Santini, the prestigious clothing brand from Bergamo with rich cycling history, approached our group of cycle-savvy designers in Glasgow to help with commemorative jersey designs for the occasion.

Between Stuco, Fourtwentyseven, OST and Paddy Hughes we created a triptych of jerseys linked together by the diagonals of the Scottish flag. This saltire motif was based on a white cross of clouds seen in the sky before a vastly outnumbered Pictish army won a famous victory in 832 AD. Today the St Andrews flag represents the inventiveness, tenacity and determination of Scots.

Stuco and Fourtwentyseven designed the Mountains Jersey, OST the Cloudscape and Paddy, the City version.

Context

The early group chat was about very Scottish elements - rain, mud, clouds, patchy roads. Designing the mountain jersey, we visited the local mtb trails in an attempt to find some quintessential textures and came back to the studio with bark rubbings, leaves and pine needles.

Collab

Working with Niall at Fourtwentyseven we split our focus on analogue and digital, with Niall abstracting components to create a more contemporary layer of texture. The patterns came together with a low flash of white saltire to produce the final design.

Management

Stuco took the role of principal contact in the project and organised the exhibition ‘The Santini Saltire’ to celebrate the project and the coming of the World champs to our home town. What an event, what a week of cycling and some nice momentos to boot.

STUCO handled the project superbly in every sense. Considering the tight time frame for delivery that was required the level of creativity and responsiveness to our particular requests was second to none. As a result of their involvement the project gained a genuinely authentic creative tone that ultimately led to a boost in sales and nothing but positive feedback on all fronts.
