What Did We do?

No mean feat? You’re absolutely right. Interpreting the Scottish Enlightenment was pretty daunting but our design process helped us to dissect big themes by context, people, concepts, locations, and what the relevancy today is.

We literally shone a light on the information, against a dark setting using spots of text and imagery and shards of coloured light. John Kay’s wonderfully caricatured engravings were used with great effect to soften tricky topics such as theology and aesthetics and we used his early speech bubbles as devices to hold quotes. Case bases and surrounds were adorned with marbled end-paper designs to further the authentic visual language.
