What Did We do?
Banchory is steeped in History. From the Natural History that surrounds the Aberdeenshire community to Bronze aged Cists and Olympic hero’s, Banchory is not simply a Gateway to Royal Deeside.
We helped the client understand conservation techniques and assisted in curation regarding which objects would benefit from open or controlled display. Wishing to reuse existing table cases we designed a central plinth which takes visitors around man’s endeavours from the past 4000 years.

“The Stuco team is very personable, approachable and patient.
They work very well together, explain concepts & approaches well and are easy to speak with. This open and positive attitude made us feel confident that we could share our own creative ideas, that we were listened to.”
Saskia Gibbon, Client, Aberdeenshire Council
Look and Feel
The museum and its objects had not benefited from consistent interpretation or display and so the objects felt amateur and parochial. We were keen to focus on this nationally significant collection against a neutral backdrop, with the printed matter able to be updated as interpretative and curatorial strategies change.
Scott-Skinner
The James Scott-Skinner archive lies in the National Library of Scotland for good reason. Skinner was an erudite fiddle player, writer and dancer of International fame. Banchory have their own archive and some of the earliest recordings can be seen in their physical, wax cylinder form. We created a digital archive area where recordings can be listened to in comfort.
Added Value
Feeling somewhat Victoriana heavy we suggested some contemporary objects and managed to acquire Ben Kilner’s snowboard from the Sochi Olympics.
As the client had lost some of its core professional team, as they put it themselves, “Whilst missing important museums skills, it needs to be acknowledged that Stuco dealt with this situation extremely well.”
